Jaw Clenching and Grinding (Bruxism) is a common condition that leads to facial pain, tension headaches, worn teeth, and discomfort in the temporomandibular joint (TMJ). This therapeutic service involves the precise injection of a neuromodulator directly into the bulky masseter muscles, which are the primary drivers of clenching. This treatment is best suited for individuals experiencing chronic jaw pain, stress-related grinding (often occurring unconsciously during sleep), and stiffness. How it Works

Technology

The treatment utilizes a neuromodulator to interrupt the communication pathway between the nerve and the masseter muscle. When injected into the large masseter muscle, the product temporarily blocks the release of the neurotransmitter acetylcholine, which signals the muscle to contract. By partially relaxing these muscles, their excessive strength and tension—which cause clenching, grinding, and pain—are diminished, allowing the muscle to atrophy slightly and the joint to rest.

Duration

A typical Jaw Clenching and Grinding Treatment is extremely quick, taking only 15 to 20 minutes. The simplicity of the procedure makes it an ideal lunch-break appointment. The therapeutic effects are temporary, and the treatment must be repeated to maintain relief, generally required every 3 to 6 months depending on the severity of the patient’s symptoms and their muscle mass.

Results

The therapeutic results begin to appear within 3 to 7 days, with patients noticing an initial reduction in muscle soreness and headaches. The full reduction in clenching strength and the maximum therapeutic effect are usually felt within 2 weeks. Will this treatment affect my ability to chew or talk?

No. The goal is only to weaken the excessive, involuntary clenching strength. You will still retain full function for talking and normal, comfortable eating. In fact, you may find chewing becomes less painful. 

How does this compare to wearing a dental night guard?

Night guards protect the teeth from damage but do not stop the clenching itself. Neuromodulator treatment directly addresses the cause by relaxing the muscle, often providing superior pain relief and reducing the intensity of the clenching entirely. 

What is the chance of getting a 'slimmed' jawline?

While the primary goal is therapeutic, a reduction in the size and bulk of the masseter muscle is a common and often desirable side effect. This slimming effect typically develops after several weeks as the relaxed muscle naturally reduces in size. 

Can I stop the treatment once the pain is gone?

You can stop at any time, but the clenching/grinding symptoms will gradually return as the neuromodulator wears off (typically 3-6 months). To maintain the pain relief and reduced muscle tension, ongoing maintenance treatments are recommended.
